Tommies Vision

Tommies Childcare is the largest childcare provider in Coventry and Warwickshire boasting 13 settings include full day care, children’s centres, family centres, nurseries, pre-schools and out of school clubs. Although Tommies is a rapidly expanding company, it is also a family run business operated in its entirety by the Chief Executive in the first 6 years of its life. The Chief Executive, and all of Tommies staff, are passionate about providing an excellent service for children and their families. In a safe and stimulating environment with a strong emphasis on safeguarding and supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and staff being given opportunities to develop in these areas, we are able to ensure the practice is fully inclusive for children, parents and staff.

Tommies Childcare Ltd offers exciting careers for people wishing to work within the childcare sector. A career in Early Years and Childcare requires an individual to be responsible, reliable and flexible. Other qualities are also required such as a passion for working with children, patience, enthusiasm, and a caring, empathetic nature.

Basic literacy and numeracy skills are expected, as well as the ability to work alone and as part of a team. All employees will have a strong work ethic and will prioritise the safeguarding of children at all times. Regular safeguarding training is provided to all staff and a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care is expected from each and every employee.

Opportunities

Being the largest childcare provider in Coventry with 13 settings across Coventry and Warwickshire including childrens centres, family centres, day care, pre-schools, before and afterschool clubs and holiday clubs; Tommies Childcare Ltd offers lots of opportunity for progression within the childcare sector. Furthermore, Tommies Childcare Ltd has its own outreach and family support team working with our local community.

There is also the opportunity for further training to gain qualifications whilst you are working.

 

Communication, Language and Literacy

Children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening, being read to and beginning to read and write will be supported by all the staff team at Flutterbies.  Children will be provided with opportunity and encouragement to use their skills in a range of situations and for a range of purposes, and be supported in developing the confidence and disposition to do so.

Tommies Childcare Ltd has their very own HR team at head office that focuses largely on the health and wellbeing of their employees. HR also ensures that respect for diversity is paramount at all times. A well-structured performance management scheme is in place to recognise successes and support all employees with their personal develop as well as achieving company objectives.

All applicants are asked to fill in an application form which can be obtained online or by calling head office on 01676 540244. The selection process will take place once the application deadline has been met and all applicants who have been shortlisted will be contacted by telephone in order for an interview to be arranged.

Interviews will last approximately one hour and this time will be used to assess the applicant’s skills and experiences against the stated criteria. Applicants will also be given the opportunity to ask any questions that they may have. Following the interview, applicants will often be asked to attend a trial placement in order for the nursery manager to be able to assess on the job ability.

You will be informed by telephone if you have been successful and a job offer letter will follow in the post.

Before you can start working or training with children you are required by law to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check to establish whether you are suitable. The costs for the CRB check will be met by Tommies Childcare Ltd.

You’ll also need two detailed references (one from your current or most recent employer). You will then be ready to embark on an exciting new career as part of the Tommies Childcare team!

Coventry and Warwickshire Employer of Choice Awards

Tommies Childcare prides itself on its commitment to the wellbeing of employees and is proud to have been awarded with recognition by achieving 3 Coventry and Warwickshire Employer of Choice awards 2010. These were;

  • Maintaining Excellence Award
  • Small/Medium Employer Award and
  • Commendation for positive action Award

In May 2012 Tommies Childcare received a certificate of recognition for supporting disabled employees from Coventry City Council.

Tommies Childcare is now working in partnership with the University Hospital in Coventry to participate in the Coventry SME Health & Wellbeing Service in order to promote and support the health and wellbeing of all employees. This has included offering all staff health checks within the workplace, provided by the NHS and signposting them to the appropriate services where possible, all completely free of charge.

Tommies Childcare is a family orientated organisation and strongly believes in a healthy work-life balance. The company is currently working on a new pilot scheme in partnership with Coventry city council in order to work towards a Coventry & Warwickshire Workplace Wellbeing Charter award, ensuring that we are doing all we can to look after our staff.
 

CHEYSA Award

In 2012 Tommies Childcare was awarded the Coventry Healthy Early Years Setting Award (CHEYSA) in all of its nursery and pre-school settings have been accredited with the Coventry Healthy Early Years Setting Award (CHEYSA). Tommies is the first childcare provider to be accredited with the CHEYSA award across all of its settings. The Coventry City Council has recognised the commitment and effort that has been dedicated to promoting good health for the children by all of those working at Tommies and Flutterbies.

A CHEYSA accredited setting assures that every family is offered a set of guaranteed health promotion standards based on six principles as identified by Primary Care Trust and Coventry City Council: Breastfeeding, Healthy Nutrition, Oral Health, Immunisation and Vaccines, Stop Smoking, and Physical Activity.

In order to achieve the CHEYSA a setting must be committed to working closely and innovatively with families, including parents and carers in consultation activities, effectively signpost families to specialist services, and promote the positive contribution of fathers in family life. Every Tommies setting has displayed this commitment and has therefore received this Award.
 

Family Business Awards 2012

Tommies is proud to announce it has been named the winners of the Commitment to the Community Award 2012 at the Midlands Family Business Awards.

The award, sponsored by Aviva, recognises those family businesses that also make a difference to their community, perhaps through supporting local initiatives, charity work, demonstrating commitment to their industry sector or taking extra care of employees and their families.

Tommies was also highly commended in the Fastest Growing Business category, judged by an independent panel led by the Managing Director of 99p stores, Hussein Lalani.

Nursery Nurse – Kenilworth, Closing Date: 9th June 2013

Salary: £9,322.56 – £11,587.68 DOE Per Annum

36 Hours Per Week

Tommies Childcare Limited are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and committed nursery nurse to join our team at our Fishponds Road nursery in Kenilworth.

The successful applicant will be qualified to Level 3 in Childcare or Early Years. Responsible for creating a happy and stimulating environment suitable for children, applicants must have a good knowledge and understanding of child development, Ofsted welfare requirements, safeguarding and the EYFS.

The successful applicant will be able to plan and evaluate daily activities to meet children’s individual needs. Knowledge of Iters and Ecers would be an advantage. Whilst supporting the staff team and the nursery manager, you would be expected to attend regular staff meetings.

Bank Staff, Closing Date: Ongoing

Tommies Childcare Limited is looking for experienced level 2 and 3 early years practitioners to join their friendly and successful bank staff team.

Ideally you will be available to work at short notice in order to cover sickness, holidays, maternity or one to one support. The successful candidates should adapt quickly to new settings and interact well with both staff teams and children. You will be responsible for creating a happy and stimulating environment for children. Applicants must have a good knowledge and understanding of child development, Ofsted welfare requirements and the EYFS. You should be able to plan and evaluate daily activities to meet children’s individual needs.
