THE OLD SCHOOL
Day Nursery & Pre-school Provision in Astley, Nuneaton
Meet the team
I am Sarah Leckie the nursery manager here at The Old School Day Nursery.
I have recently joined Tommies Childcare and took up the role of Nursery Manager in January 2020.
Following the completion of my BA Honours degree studying Children and Young People, my career journey has been extremely varied. I’ve worked as both a Nursery Practitioner and a Nursery Manager, with both roles having given me invaluable insights into the dynamics and diversity of nursery life.
I work with a great team here at The Old School and I truly believe that each and every one of their contributions to the children we care for is what makes us different to other nurseries.
The early years is the most important time of a child’s life and is the foundation for their future. I have always enjoyed working with children, and being a manager is a great opportunity for me to help make a difference to children’s lives here at Tommies.
I’d love to be able to give you a tour of our nursery and talk to you more about what we do here at The Old School. Why not arrange a visit now?
My name is Nikki, and I joined The Old School in January 2016, starting my career in childcare as a Modern Apprentice with the group.
Since gaining my Level 3 qualification in childcare, I have progressed in my career and I am now in the role of Deputy Manager here at The Old School Day Nursery & Pre-school.
I thoroughly enjoy my job and take pride in providing a stimulating learning environment for children. It is a privilege to be able to watch young children thrive, develop and learn new skills through the activities that we provide, and knowing that I have been a part of this growth is extremely rewarding.
We’re always happy to show parents our nursery, so if you’d like to pop by, please arrange a visit.
The Old School is the smallest nursery within our Tommies Childcare group. In what the nursery lacks in size, it more than makes up for through the huge amount of character in the setting.
The setting is supported by 10 staff who are all passionate about working with children in the early years. All of our employees have Paediatric First Aid Training and receive regular and ongoing training through a variety of internal and external professional development opportunities.
Our commitment guarantees that our employees are the best of the best, recruiting those who have a desire to make a difference to children and are passionate about the early years as a career choice.
In 2017 the setting was inspected by Ofsted, and it was recognised that, “Children are developing the skills they need for their future learning. They enjoy investigating and exploring the natural world and how and why things happen.”
This is supported by the natural and open-ended environments that have been created for children at the setting. Staff show confidence in being able to use their environments not only to support but extend children’s learning.
In 2018, the nursery received the Nursery of the Year award at the annual Tommies Childcare Awards Ceremony. This award was given for the hard work and dedication of the management and staff team in providing a fantastic early years provision for the children in their care.
The staff team at The Old School have been instrumental in supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where they have raised over £2,000.
