THE OLD SCHOOL
Day Nursery & Pre-school Provision in Astley, Nuneaton
Meet the team
My name is Danielle Tuohy-Hewitt and I am the Nursery Manager here at The Old School Day Nursery.
I started my career in the Early Years’ sector a little more than 12 years ago. I set out as an Apprentice but have since gained my childcare qualifications as well as a Foundation Degree in Early Years’.
I have a little girl who has started her adventure at Tommies Childcare alongside me, so I understand first hand how parents feel when they send their children to nursery.
I also understand the importance of the first years of a child’s life and that they learn through their play. I love to see the children learn, grow, and develop into such amazing little human beings. Working in the early years’ sector is such a rewarding job, as you see the children form their personalities, and you know that you are having a big impact on their future.
My door is always open should you ever need to speak to me or ask for some advice. Feel free to pop in and see me.
In the meantime, if you would like a tour of our wonderful nursery, I’d love to show you around. Please arrange your visit today.
My name is Hayley! My journey in childcare started nearly 13 years ago when I received my Level 3 qualification in Childcare. I have since gained experience working first hand with children and their families, providing wholehearted care and support. I have gained this experience and knowledge by working in a variety of nurseries, including an Ofsted “Outstanding” nursery.
I joined Tommies Childcare in September 2019 as the Third in Charge, where I worked alongside the management team to provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children here at The Old School Day Nursery. In April 2021, I was given an amazing opportunity and became the Deputy Manager here at The Old School.
I have always had a passion for working with children and feel a real sense of pride and achievement as I see the children grow, learn and develop during their time with us. My particular interest is learning through messy play. Messy play provides a good base for communication between the children and encourages the building of friendships. I enjoy getting my hands messy and strongly believe that if you’re messy it means you’ve had fun!
I’m looking forward to sharing and implementing my knowledge and experience here at The Old School. We’re always happy to show parents our nursery, so if you’d like to pop by, please arrange a visit.
The Old School is the smallest nursery within our Tommies Childcare group. In what the nursery lacks in size, it more than makes up for through the huge amount of character in the setting.
The setting is supported by 10 staff who are all passionate about working with children in the early years. All of our employees have Paediatric First Aid Training and receive regular and ongoing training through a variety of internal and external professional development opportunities.
Our commitment guarantees that our employees are the best of the best, recruiting those who have a desire to make a difference to children and are passionate about the early years as a career choice.
In 2017 the setting was inspected by Ofsted, and it was recognised that, “Children are developing the skills they need for their future learning. They enjoy investigating and exploring the natural world and how and why things happen.”
This is supported by the natural and open-ended environments that have been created for children at the setting. Staff show confidence in being able to use their environments not only to support but extend children’s learning.
In 2018, the nursery received the Nursery of the Year award at the annual Tommies Childcare Awards Ceremony. This award was given for the hard work and dedication of the management and staff team in providing a fantastic early years provision for the children in their care.
The staff team at The Old School have been instrumental in supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where they have raised over £2,000.
