Kim Rankin, Nursery Manager
Hello, my name is Kim and I am the Nursery Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery in Derby.
I have over 15 years experience working with children aged between 0-11 years. For the past 8 years of my career I have been in a leadership or management role.
I originally started work in a nursery as a student when I was 17 years old and worked towards my NVQ Level 3. In 2013, I went to Derby University to complete a Foundation Degree in Children’s and Young People’s Services.
I started at Tommies Childcare in April 2019 and I am really glad I made the decision to come here.
I am an ASD champion for Derbyshire and have a passion for working with children with additional needs. The Local Authority have selected me to do SEN reviews for the area as well.
If you are considering bringing your child to Thornhill Day Nursery, please don’t hesitate to arrange a visit! We’d love to meet you.
Kirsty Walker, Deputy Manager
Hi there, I am Kirsty and I am the Deputy Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery in Derby.
I have more than 24 years of childcare experience working with children between the ages of 0-4 years.
I originally started my career gaining my NNEB Nursery Nurse diploma, which enabled me to work in a variety of settings as well as the children’s hospital.
I am incredibly passionate about working with and supporting children and their families to receive the best outcomes and learning opportunities.
In my many years of working in childcare I have seen lots of changes to how we track and log children’s development. This has meant that I have had to re-train and develop my learning to remain up to date with the latest childcare practices.
I have recently started here at Tommies Childcare, and I am really looking forward to developing the nursery here at Thornhill.
Rachel Yates, Third in Charge
Hello, I am Rachel and I am the Third in Charge here at Thornhill Day Nursery in Derby.
I am very excited to be a part of the Tommies Childcare team and I am looking forward to a bright and fun filled future with this company.
I have always had an interest for childcare, previously being in primary schools, breakfast and after school clubs and nurseries. All this before undertaking my Early Childhood Studies degree at the University of Derby which ultimately confirmed my passion for childcare and widened my understanding of children’s development.
I believe that children learn best when gaining experiences through play and exploration; which means we, as practitioners must enable them the opportunities to the best of our abilities.
