Day Nursery & Pre-school Provision in Derby
Meet the team
Hello, my name is Kim and I am the Nursery Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery in Derby.
I have over 15 years experience working with children aged between 0-11 years. For the past 8 years of my career I have been in a leadership or management role.
I originally started work in a nursery as a student when I was 17 years old and worked towards my NVQ Level 3. In 2013, I went to Derby University to complete a Foundation Degree in Children’s and Young People’s Services.
I started at Tommies Childcare in April 2019 and I am really glad I made the decision to come here.
I am an ASD champion for Derbyshire and have a passion for working with children with additional needs. The Local Authority have selected me to do SEN reviews for the area as well.
If you are considering bringing your child to Thornhill Day Nursery, please don’t hesitate to arrange a visit! We’d love to meet you.
I am Kirsty and I am the Deputy Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery in Derby.
I have more than 24 years of childcare experience working with children between the ages of 0-4 years.
I originally started my career gaining my NNEB Nursery Nurse diploma, which enabled me to work in a variety of settings as well as the children’s hospital.
I am incredibly passionate about working with and supporting children and their families to receive the best outcomes and learning opportunities.
In my many years of working in childcare I have seen lots of changes to how we track and log children’s development. This has meant that I have had to re-train and develop my learning to remain up to date with the latest childcare practices.
I have recently started here at Tommies Childcare, and I am really looking forward to developing the nursery here at Thornhill.
Thornhill is the newest setting to join the Tommies Childcare family. Acquired in 2018, we have a team of 6 employees who have taken to the delivery of the Tommies Childcare approach and ethos very well.
This can be seen in the fantastic environments on offer at the setting, whereby children are encouraged to learn through resources and environments that are calm and considerate to the ways in which children learn.
All of our employees have Paediatric First Aid Training and receive regular and ongoing training through a variety of internal and external professional development opportunities.
Our commitment guarantees that our employees are the best of the best, recruiting those who have a desire to make a difference to children and are passionate about the early years as a career choice.
The team at Thornhill Day Nursery includes the Nursery Manager Kim Rankin and the Deputy Manager Kirsty Walker, both of whom have extensive knowledge and qualifications in supporting children with identified Special Educational Needs (SEN) and have been chosen by Derby City Council to represent the city in their delivery of services for those children who require further support.
