Day Nursery & Pre-school Provision in Derby
Meet the team
Hello, my name is Millie Hardy, and I am the Nursery Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery, Derby.
My journey with Tommies Childcare is just beginning, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work for such a well-regarded, family-focussed, high-quality childcare provider. It is a special time for me as I get to share this journey with my baby boy, who will also be embarking on his early years’ journey at Thornhill Day Nursery. With this in mind, I understand first-hand how parents/carers feel when deciding to send their child to a nursery, especially during these unprecedented times. I aim to support you through this transition and make it as smooth, easy and exciting as possible for you and your family.
I have over 10+ years’ experience working in childcare, managing children’s camps, and nursery settings across Europe. I also hold a degree in Early Childhood Studies that I completed in 2014. My career history has highlighted the importance of recognising personal values, backgrounds and beliefs, something I feel should be celebrated in every individual.
I lead a highly skilled and qualified team, whose ethos is wholeheartedly to support children in reaching their full potential, ultimately becoming confident, resilient, and well-rounded individuals. My experience has taught me that culture within a setting is vital, ensuring everyone holds the same values as one another. As a team, we at Thornhill are here to support and guide your child through their early years’ journey, having a lot of fun along the way!
The learning environments at Thornhill Day Nursery are exceptional, making us the flagship nursery in Derby. Children are provided with a stimulating environment and open-ended resources, allowing them to follow their imagination and embark on a journey full of curiosity and excitement. I would be delighted to welcome you to Thornhill Day Nursery to showcase the genuinely unique spaces that we offer, in addition to discussing your childcare requirements.
Hello there, my name is Laura Boni, and I am the Deputy Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery.
I began my career in the early years’ sector in 1990, when I qualified with the NNEB certificate. Since then, I have worked continually within a day nursery environment, gaining knowledge and experience of caring for young children.
In 2005, I decided to return to college and study for a degree in Early Childhood Studies, graduating from Derby University in 2010 with a BA (Hons) and the Early Years Professional Status. It was during this time that I further developed as a practitioner, as I was balancing the management of a busy nursery as well as raising three young children of my own.
I was able to apply my skills and knowledge from my studies to my practice and was pleased to achieve an Outstanding Ofsted grading. I was also incredibly proud to be recognised by Derbyshire County Council for my work in inclusive practice at their annual awards ceremony in 2010.
As a Mum, I understand the challenges for parents who, like me, want the very best for their children. As a parent, your child’s happiness and safety are your primary concerns, and that is why I am pleased to be a part of the Tommies Childcare team where we hold shared values.
I have followed the journey of Tommies Childcare and have admired their ethos, quality of provision and how they are driving up the standards for the early years’ sector. I was therefore delighted to see that Tommies Childcare had opened a nursery in my hometown of Derby, and even more delighted when I was offered the position of Deputy Manager!
Thornhill Day Nursery is a beautiful environment, light, spacious, and equipped to the highest standards of any nursery setting I have seen. It gives babies and children the very best that they deserve: space where they can explore, develop their independence and curiosity.
I aim to help children develop their communication skills. I particularly enjoy helping children to find a love for books and reading. Sharing a story that has your young audience gripped is one of the best parts of my job! I like to see books in all areas of play, to share stories one to one or in groups and encourage children to share their favourite stories too. I believe this sets children up for life-long learning.
You would be more than welcome to arrange a visit to Thornhill and consider us as your nursery provider, so please book your visit today.
