Della Wigley, Nursery Manager

Hello, my name is Della and I am the Nursery Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery in Derby.

Myself and the team at Thornhill are recently new to Tommies Childcare and are very excited to start a new journey with the parents, staff and most importantly, the children towards a brighter future.

I have had 14 years experience within a childcare setting and 5 of those as management of an ‘Outstanding’ nursery. I started pursuing my career as an unqualified nursery assistant and gradually gained beneficial experience and qualifications along the way; this enabled me to work with a wide range of ages and gain understanding of children’s needs and abilities.

Using my extensive experience I believe that children should have the best start in life; enriched with a positive environment that enables them to grow into independent individuals. This is done by ensuring that children are surrounded by role modelling practitioners that provide children with a homely secure environment as well as treating them as equals.

If you are considering bringing your child to Thornhill Day Nursery, please don’t hesitate to arrange a visit!  We’d love to meet you.

Rachel Yates, Deputy Manager

Hello, I am Rachel and I am the Deputy Manager here at Thornhill Day Nursery in Derby.

I am very excited to have recently joined the Tommies Childcare team and I am looking forward to a bright and fun filled future with this company.

I have always had an interest for childcare, previously being in primary schools, breakfast and after school clubs and nurseries. All this before undertaking my Early Childhood Studies degree at the University of Derby which ultimately confirmed my passion for childcare and widened my understanding of children’s development.

I believe that children learn best when gaining experiences through play and exploration; which means we, as practitioners must enable them the opportunities to the best of our abilities.
