Day Nursery & Pre-school Provision in Coventry
Meet the team
Hello, my name is Kelly Andrews and I am the Area Manager for Tommies Childcare.
I began my Tommies journey back in 2015 when I joined the organisation as a Nursery Manager, right here at Westhill Corner. Since then, I have progressed in the organisation and I now oversee all of our nursery sites from an operational perspective. Right now I am spending most of my time here at Westhill Corner and supporting the nursery team.
I have worked in the Early Years sector since 2010 when I worked as a Nursery Practitioner whilst studying at University. It was during this experience where I discovered the joy and reward that comes with working alongside young children.
After I graduated from University and began my Early Years journey, I set myself a goal to progress into an Area Manager role. I achieved this goal in 2018 when I was 29, which is something I’m very proud of. This couldn’t have happened without the support, training and guidance that I have received since joining Tommies Childcare. The company’s ethos of ‘growing your own’ couldn’t be more key to my professional development.
I am known within Tommies for being upbeat and positive (even at 6am in the morning). This is an attitude that I uphold at work and in my personal life. Family and friendship are both extremely important to me, and this is why I know that working at Tommies has always been the right decision for me both personally and professionally.
If you’re thinking of bringing your child to Westhill I’d be delighted to meet you and talk through any questions you have. Just arrange a visit.
My name is Rachael Madden, Deputy manager here at Westhill Corner.
I joined Tommies in 2015 after I relocated to Coventry from Liverpool. I am qualified as a Level 3 Practitioner and have over 10 years’ experience working in childcare.
Since working here at Westhill we have won many company awards, including Nursery of the Year, an Innovative Environments Award for our garden area, and I have also personally received the Nursery Practitioner of the Year Award, which I am extremely proud of.
In 2018 I had my own child who also attends the setting. We both love coming to work and nursery. I am very lucky to see my daughter throughout the day and get to see all the lovely things she experiences.
Westhill is a very special nursery, and we’d love the opportunity to show you around. Why not arrange a visit and see the nursery for yourself?
Westhill Corner is supported by a team of 12 staff, who are all passionate about working with children in the early years.
All of our employees have Paediatric First Aid Training and receive regular and ongoing training through a variety of internal and external professional development opportunities.
Our commitment guarantees that our employees are the best of the best, recruiting those who have a desire to make a difference to children and are passionate about the early years as a career choice.
In 2016, Ofsted noted that: “Children enhance their physical skills and spend time outside each day. They develop good independence skills as they learn to dress themselves for outdoor play.”
Whilst the outdoor area at the setting is smaller than some settings, what they do in the outdoors with the children is of real value to children’s learning and development. The setting has appointed Sarah Wellington as their Outdoors Co-ordinator. She has maximised the effectiveness of the areas available in the outdoor space and is always looking at ways to enhance this further.
Many of the staff team have been in post for over 5 years, meaning that you and your child are reassured by the consistency of a familiar face. We believe this is incredibly important when working with the very youngest children.
The setting received several awards at the 2019 Tommies Childcare Awards Ceremony:
- Nursery of the Year (2019)
- Deputy Manager of the Year (2019): Amy-Lee Mackay
- Third in Charge/Room Leader of the Year (2019): Stacey Scott
- Trainee of the Year (2019): Chrissie Wincott
- Innovative Environments Award (2019): Baby Room
All of these have awards have been received due to the hard work and commitment that the team have contributed to making the setting a great place to be for the children in their care.
