Our monthly blogs are usually centred on topics relating to child development or nursery life. However, this month, we wanted to put the microscope on what goes into ensuring that the people who look after your child are the very best.

The fantastic people who make up the Tommies team are here to provide award-winning childcare every day. 

A lot of work goes on behind the scenes to put our team together. A stringent recruitment process combined with extensive training and an employee engagement programme are the 3 keys which unlock the very best childcare practitioners.

Our Recruitment Commitment

The Tommies Childcare vision comprises 4 focus areas, one of them being to “guarantee our employees are the best of the best”.

We provide the best mentors and guides for your children, investing in staff who understand this is more than a job and are excited to help shape our next generation.

New employees must pass through our extensive recruitment and selection process before being offered a position within one of our nurseries. Therefore, our people will have been through a formal interview and completed a practical work trial. 

Taking the time to assess a person’s ability to work with young children and feel confident that they will fit into our organisation helps us ensure they are the right person to help provide the best possible care.

All staff will also undergo an Enhanced DBS check before commencing employment, and we must see a minimum of two professional references before offering a position. 

Extensive Training

As a member of the Tommies team, several mandatory training courses must be completed before starting with us. 

The mandatory training courses include:

  • Safeguarding
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • Health & Safety
  • Food Hygiene
  • Infection Control
  • SEND

All new employees will also be supported during their first 6 months through a comprehensive induction to Tommies Childcare, their nursery, and their appointed role.

We are passionate about employee engagement and believe that all staff, whether they work with children or in any other role, have a part to play in enabling us to achieve our goals and aspirations.
